Donald Trump has secretly encouraged Ukraine to intensify its deep-sea attacks on Russian territory. According to sources inside the talks, it is a way to force Putin to the negotiating table.
According to the newspaper, Trump has asked Ukraine to strike Moscow on the condition that the United States would provide long-range weapons.
The conversation reportedly took place on July 4 between American and Ukrainian representatives.
The discussion is in line with the frustration Donald Trump has expressed in recent weeks:
– I am disappointed in President Putin, because I thought we would have had an agreement two months ago, he has said.
“Volodymyr, can you reach Moscow?”
According to sources from inside the meeting, Donald Trump is said to have asked:
– Volodymyr, can you reach Moscow? … Can you reach St. Petersburg too?
The aim is to make the Russians “feel pain” and thus force Putin to the negotiating table.
Neither the American nor Ukrainian governments have commented on the information.
Threat of attack on the West
During another meeting with US defense officials, Zelensky received a list of long-range weapons that could be delivered to Ukraine through intermediaries.
It would be a way for Trump to circumvent congressional rules that prohibit the administration from sending military aid directly to Ukraine.
Russia has repeatedly threatened to attack Western targets in response to the West’s arms deliveries to Ukraine. No such statements have yet been carried out.
Putin has said that Russia has the right to “use our weapons against military facilities of countries that allow their weapons to be used against our facilities, and if the aggressive action escalates, we will respond equally decisively and symmetrically.”
So far, Ukraine has mainly used its domestically produced long-range drones to attack targets deep inside Russia.
